I've been watching the spring/summer elections and you can see it starting. America IS rising... up against those who would make us like Europe... rising up against those who rule us but hate us... rising up against the tyranny of those who want to change the very core of our lives, our country's beginnings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;America IS rising. Liberals railed against the 'evil' Republicans when in fact, it was they who pulled the strings. G W Bush may have been the president but it was liberals like Reid, Frank, Pelosi, and Dodd who set us on this path to destruction. Bush went wobbly his last year in office but by that time, the trap had been set.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Obama has done ONE good thing... he has awakened good Americans who thought their government would treat them fairly and serve them. Obama has made them see he fully intends to make citizens serve government. Guess what Barack? You are wrong!!! It starts in November, 2010. It culminates November, 2012.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Watch out Barack. Speech&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This was the speech I gave at Beef-O-Grady's tonight, Friday, May 13th at the first Freedom Fridays event. Regular readers may see a common and reoccurring thought. The Freedom Friday website is: http://freefris.blogspot.com&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When Brad asked me what ‘tag’ I wanted after my name in the press release, I hesitated and told him I didn’t have a real ‘tag’ and that I was just some one trying to use some common sense… and he ran with it. My motto has become. Not racist, not violent, just not silent any more! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;With that in mind, I’ve been trying to find the ‘common sense’ in what is happening in Washington lately. Common sense might tell the average Washington political creature the people oppose their actions... but for some reason, they continue. Polls consistently show 60 to 65% of the American public is against the healthcare scam… but the Liberals pushed it through anyway. Hmmm.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The so called ‘Arizona bill’ shows consistent 70 to 75% APPROVAL and the Liberals are against it and are working to punish Arizona for trying to take care of its citizens. Ten other states are working to enact similar bills and Liberals are appalled.  Hmmm. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Obama administration is grabbing and tying up billions of acreage in the western United States and quite ironically, most of that acreage has huge, proven oil and natural gas reserves. This land grab will stop drilling for those energy reserves. Liberals think that is alright. Hmmm. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nancy Pelosi announced Wednesday she is pushing to give all illegal immigrants amnesty. She calls it a ‘path to legalization. I’ll bite Nancy. Let’s ship them all back to their country of origin and drop them off at the US Consulate so they can apply for a proper visa. What is wrong with THAT path of legalization? Hmmmm?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I could go on but this was to be only two minutes so allow me to give the Liberals one bit of fatherly advice. Don’t urinate on my leg and tell me it is raining. It is time for NORMAL Americans to stand up and speak out. This article in the NY Daily News http://tinyurl.com/27kpzqe made me laugh... not because it was funny but rather because of some of the quotes. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It seems President Obama wants to slash the NYC anti terrorism budget by 53 million bucks. The very same President Obama is headed to NYC to meet with the policemen who saw the would be bombers vehicle and sounded the alarm. If you have never been to NYC, you have no clue as to the huge cost it will take to shut down the city streets so he can travel there safely. Let's not even begin to talk about the inconvenience to city drivers. Times Square traffic is horrible.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Can you guess who is crying FOUL! right now? Yeah, my favorite idiot, Chuck U Schumer, NY Senator. Obama wants to come to town to thank the police for thwarting the bombing. While I agree, they did great work in evacuating the area, in reality, the bomb was not thwarted, it was bungled. Had the bomb been done right, the area President Obama wants to visit wouldn't be there now. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have friends in 'the City' and in near by Brooklyn and they are aghast at the happenings there lately. Take this exactly how I mean it... you reap what you sow. Obama had no experience, serving about 153 days in the Senate before assuming the most powerful (well at least when he took the seat it was the most powerful) seat in the world. Prior to that, he was a Chicago politician or a thug as they call them in that town. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Liberals, and by Liberal, I don't always include Democrats as the two are not always the same, figured they had the world by the short hairs when they elected one of their own. I guess they figured the war Obama was going to wage was going to be waged on evil Republican and conservatives. Guess again hey Senator Schumer and fellow Obama worshipers? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Which leads me to the crux of my speech this Friday night in Sebring. I watch the ultra liberal wing of the Democrat party wholesale stomping on every thing and every one. Ask Chuck Schumer about that one. What politician deliberately goes around urinating on every citizen he can find? I can think of a couple options. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One: Obama has cracked under the stress and the confines of not being able to get out when and where he pleases and thus, he has become disorientated. This might account for some of the erratic behavior and speeches he has given. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Two: This is by design. Since the early 1900's, "Progressives" have been trying to install a socialist agenda into law in the US. I was talking with some people today about the reckless abandon Obama and the ultra liberal members of Congress seem to use in pursuing what I see as devastating for the country as I know it.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We were discussing it and I mentioned that Obama and crew were using the classic Cloward–Piven strategy to bring about the 'fundamental transformation of America" had threatened during his campaign. They had no concept of Cloward or Piven. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am on 'vacation' right now but for those of you old enough to remember it, recall the NY Daily News November October 30th, 1975 headline, "FORD TO CITY: DROP DEAD!" The ordeal that brought the city of New York to its knees was brought about by Richard Cloward and Frances Piven. The goal was to create a 'national guaranteed annual income.' In other words, they were looking to increase the welfare rolls in an effort to over burden the local budget and bring about a change in the system. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The concept was originally outlined in 1966 and used to some success on a small scale and once placed into action in NYC, the city went broke, just as hoped and planned. Unlike Obama, then President Ford refused to bail out the city. The move cost him the 1976 election to Jimmy Carter, a mistake America quickly and resoundingly righted the next go around with the election of Ronald Reagan. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Until the party was split by Ross Perot, he of the "Can I finish?" rhetoric, the Republican party had a lock on things for at least another eight years or longer. They allowed things to get out of focus and thus lost control. There is a lesson for 2012 here. We allowed candidates that felt 'reaching across the aisle' was a good thing despite the fact that it was always an unilateral move. We allow the complicit media to choose our nominee for president while most of us knew he not only was a RINO at best but also came with heavy baggage, such as the "Keating Five" scandal. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Perhaps Americans will see it is time to do the right thing and elect a congress that will at least slow down the descent into socialism and set us up for an election in 2012 that will allow us to reverse the damage done to date. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As I think I've said before, my candidate must pledge to begin to undo all of this nonsense on the first day and in the first hours of their inauguration day. We must demand one of the first acts be the release of all that oil and gas laden acreage in the Montana/Colorado/Wyoming/Utah/Nevada area and allow careful drilling and recovery of our own resources vs making us dependent on the oil cartels. We must demand immediate reversal of the health scam bill and all that went with it. We can wish that the elections in November will prove America and Americans will regain their common sense. We can hope to stop the socialization of our great Republic... but if you want it to happen, you best get off your backside and get busy because the 'revolution' begins with you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another way to look at it in a quotation? Unctuous is described as being characterized by excessive piousness or moralistic fervor, esp. in an affected manner; excessively smooth, suave, or smug.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When I see President Obama with that upward head tilt, I will think of the word 'unctuous.' When I hear Nancy Pelosi tell me that after they pass a law we will find out what was in it, I will think of the word 'unctuous.' When Harry Reid opens his mouth, the word 'unctuous' will come to mind. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Words are fascinating aren't they? Another one I heard a lot was “to those who is given, much is expected.”  I liked that one a bit more in the sense that the strong must help the weak and when possible, be charitable to those in need.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have another one my Father taught me as a young man that went something like this, “For in much wisdom is much grief, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.” Ecclesiastes 1:18. It took me a while to understand but as I grew older and had children, it became painfully clear. You take your child to get immunizations, knowing all the way that your happy, smiling baby is not going home that way. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" was from John 8:32.  The Nazi’s used something similar over their concentration camp gates that read, “Veritas vos liberabit”   which translated to the very same “the truth shall make you free.”  Same phrase but vastly different results.  One spoke of knowing the love and power of a God that card for his children and the other was used to temporarily keep its victims calm until it was too late to do anything to save them.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You’ll have to think about it to see why this is relevant. It had to be pointed out but now I have to finish my thoughts from the first part of that rambling. This post may wander around a bit but I hope you can follow it to the end. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the next couple months, political activity is going be ramp up exponentially and accusations and smears will be all over the news. Remember, violence and name calling isn’t our game. You’ll not see opposing speeches canceled because a group of Tea Party people stormed the stage or threatened a speaker. Those are not in our play book. You will be accused of much but if you remain calm and smile, you will stay out of trouble. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Camcorders are cheap now and when on ‘patrol,’ it never hurts to have one… just in case. If some one in your group begins to get overly boisterous, it behooves us to calm them or remove them. I’ve said it before and I say it again. The media is just aching to find that rambunctious Tea Partier to use as their poster child for the typical ‘right wing terrorist.’  Speak your mind and say your truth but don’t be like the SEIU thugs. Enough on that subject.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So many people ask me who I will support for president or for certain other offices. I haven’t decided yet. It is early in the race and somewhere along the line, the right person will emerge and you will know that person when you see them. Until then, keep your mind, eyes and ears open. My Father always told me God gave you two ears and two eyes but only one mouth for a reason. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My selection will be the person that looks to truthfully tell me that they will immediately begin to undo the damage sustained since January 20th, 2009. I am looking for someone who will return RESPECT back to America vs. being ‘liked’ around the world. The college professor from whom I learned the most was one that initially scared me silly. She was one tough instructor but I quickly learned to respect her and I learned a lot. I had several instructors that I liked that never taught me diddly. I want the same thing with America’s status in the world. I could care less if another country ‘likes’ us as long as they RESPECT us. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I want someone who will stand up to aggressor states instead of bowing to them. I want someone who will stand with our long time allies, giving them the respect they deserve in public and the counseling we all need now and then behind closed doors. They need to know that America has their back.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am also looking for someone who understands that all of that green ink the Treasury is using will soon wash out and become red. Liberals will blather about George Bush’s deficit spending but Obama has quadrupled the debt in 17 short months. They will call you on ‘you didn’t say anything for eight years’ when the Republicans were in control. Remind them that of those eight years, Republicans only held a majority in about three of them and then it was a very, very slim margin.  “Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords” was the first defector that took away Republican control in the first two years and is just the kind of guy of whom we need to be shed in 2010. We have seen what working with the left brings us. We don’t need any more of THAT. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Find candidates that will give us a solid chance to stop the madness and then begin to look toward 2012. Unless it is absolutely necessary, it can wait until we get our budget under control. We need to make sure the country begins to see that (hopefully) we have shed ourselves of the RINO type Republican, that is to say, guys like John McCain who constantly wanted to ‘reach across the aisle’ to make friends and legislation and have returned to the concept of lesser government. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Of course, the media and the left will automatically begin to bray that we ‘hate the poor’ and of course, ‘women and children will bear the brunt of the evil conservative agenda.’ Know it now and realize that it is just part of their plan to make us look bad. Everyone who is currently politically active has heard of heard of Saul Alinsky. I will list his ‘Rules for Radicals’ below but you need to see his tactics in action to understand what to expect. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;George H. Bush, then an US House of Representative, was scheduled to make a speech at Tulane University in 1972 supporting President Nixon’s Vietnam policies and leftist radicals went to then Professor Alinsky to get pointers on how to plan a protest. He told them that their plan was not very creative and would be ineffective. He told them that instead of protesting, they should join the pro Bush supporters but dress like KKK members  and whenever Bush said something in defense of the Vietnam War, they should cheer and wave placards reading, ‘The KKK supports Bush.' It worked like a charm. Does that sound faintly familiar to today’s headlines? Crash the Tea Parties anyone? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Study the rules as Alinsky laid them out in his book and you will see that the left uses these rules yet today. If you ever wonder why the left is so quick to make judgments against Christians, see rule 4. Palin hatred is summed up in rules 5, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13. Read these and see if you don’t see a modern pattern.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Rules for Radicals.” Here they are, all 13 of them, from the chapter “Tactics:”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;   1. Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.&lt;br /&gt;   2. Never go outside the experience of your people.&lt;br /&gt;   3. Whenever possible go outside the experience of your enemy.&lt;br /&gt;   4. Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.&lt;br /&gt;   5. Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.&lt;br /&gt;   6. A good tactic is one that your people enjoy.&lt;br /&gt;   7. A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.&lt;br /&gt;   8. Keep the pressure on.&lt;br /&gt;   9. The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.&lt;br /&gt;  10. The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.&lt;br /&gt;  11. If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside.&lt;br /&gt;  12. The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.&lt;br /&gt;  13. I stream live video of numerous circle tracks in the Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio area and Saturday was the start of the season. I was feeling really great about everything Saturday night when I went to bed but Sunday morning, the server that held all of the data for our websites crashed. Since noon Sunday, we've had to restore about 120+ websites. My aching fingers!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I went to the Tea Party meeting tonight and once again, I met some very interesting and nice people. I enjoyed the speakers and just in general had a great time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have a article brewing in the back of my head about "American Exceptionalism" and it is going to be here real soon... maybe tomorrow. This from a guy who expects me to agree with everything he says, won't listen to anyone else's opinion, and uses racial epithets and words of curse like a guy with a bad cold uses tissues.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's odd... I can have any opinion I wish as long as it falls in line with his. I find it even more bizarre that he never finished high school but would have me believe he knows more about politics and life in general than I. Looks like I wasted a lot of money and time going to college and such. I strive to be some one like him... just kidding of course. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well, I'm off... but you knew that. Lots of waves and horn honking with only one carload of people (driving a Korean car by the way!) giving us thumbs down, blaming G W Bush for all the problems of today. Pres. Bush didn't help us much in his last year but in 16 months, the current administration has quadrupled the level of national debt. Sure, let's blame Bush.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Talked with a young lady who was a reporter for "Highlands Today." She  was asking stereotypical questions such as "...then Tea Party DOESN'T hate poor people and immigrants?" I told her absolutely not! This was about the drunken spending that is ongoing and I told her that 'the party,' meaning the wild spending had to stop. All politics aside, the out of control spending has to stop. We can't say "YES!" to everyone and some where, some how, we must start telling people, "No... we can't afford that." I had to tell my kids that as they grew up and I have to tell my wife that now and again... but it is the truth. The 'party' has to stop... now. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I guess I buy a paper tomorrow to see how she spins my words. I did my best not to give her that "Gotcha!" pull quote but I got a buck fifty that says through the use of convenient editing, I end up looking like a racist fool. Time will tell.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the plus side, I met a very nice gentleman from Illinois and we had a good talk during the flag wave. Turned out he was the father of another gentleman I just met last Monday night. I was taught America was a special place and that American exceptionalism was gospel. Our Founding Fathers were men of faith and honor who took huge risks just by believing the way they did.  America was made up of hard working people and that ‘good ol’ Yankee ingenuity’ could conquer anything, anywhere, at any time. Apollo 13 was a prime example. People helped each other because it was the right thing to do.  Where did it all go wrong?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many people now believe that America is to blame for nearly everything that is wrong in the world. American capitalism is evil and our Founding Fathers were hedonistic men who owned slaves and got rich at the expense of others. People only help others because they stand to profit from their acts… and I say BUNK! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If the elections of November 2008 have done nothing else, they have awakened the soul of the America and Americans I knew as a young boy. You may believe as you wish but I know… I mean I KNOW… there are more people out there that believe as I do versus the way the ruling elitist believe.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;They think they’ve won. They choose not to listen to the voice of “We The People” but I know they hear us. Watch how much they try to ramrod through Congress this summer. They know their days are numbered. They want you to think that when they win, you win… but we know better. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Watching these politicians is much like watching a magician. If they are waving the right hand around and making a big deal of showing you the right hand, it is the left hand that is picking your pocket and limiting your freedoms.  When they trot out a new crisis, watch the Friday afternoon ‘news dumps.’ &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;America, I know you are out there. I’ve talked to many of you and I know you are worried about our future just as am I. I’ve said it before, you need to speak up and you need to speak out. Silence leads to socialism. We must be heard! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;While I want to bring up another part of WW 2 history a day or two down the road, remember, in 1935 they thought Winston Churchill was a nut job as he warned about the rising power of Germany. Abraham Lincoln was despised by millions in 1860.  The signers of the Declaration of Independence were targeted for death merely for signing it. You could do a lot worse than be in the company of such fine men. We are held to a standard far and away different than the standard to which liberals are held. It has gotten nothing but worse the past few months. We are being scrutinized. Our every paragraph, our every word… even our every syllable, for words or sounds that could be cast as ‘racist” or “hateful” or make us sound like a “terrorist” as Janet Neapolitano would have you believe those of the Tea Party persuasion might be… people who, as in the words of an aspiring Senator once said, cling to their God and to their guns and might clandestinely plan for violent civil unrest. The same bunch that had no problem making movies depicting George W Bush being assassinated assails Sarah Palin for saying “it’s time to reload” … as if they can find a true conservative that has thrown a pie at a speaker as they did to Ann Coulter … or has rose up and stopped a speaker of an opposing viewpoint from saying their piece as happened to Karl Rove and Ann Coulter a week or so back.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Don’t give them the chance to turn your words back you. Don’t use words that could be taken as racist or hurtful. If you can’t refrain from saying such things, refer inquiring media types to someone who can refrain, for believe me, they want to find some one in the movement who uses those words… those phrases… that they can hold up and say “BEHOLD… A TYPICAL TEA PARTY MEMBER!”  and thus use that person to portray the entire movement. We must be decent people in indecent times. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A few weeks back, U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri said he was spat upon by Tea Party members on his way to vote for the Health care scam. Andrew Breitbart has put up a $10,000 reward for a video that supports this statement. His money is still safe in his bank account.  The media wants you to do something stupid… DON’T! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Times have changed. I was young but I remember when Walter Cronkite, the so called Dean of TV Journalism… the man every reporter and news anchor wanted to emulate pulled the plug on ever winning the Viet Nam war. After giving a report about the Tet Offensive… you know during what they used to call “news?”… he gave an editorial where he declared the war as unwinnable. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;President Johnson then told his aides, “If I’ve lost Cronkite, I’ve lost Middle America.” . &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The media used to have THAT kind of power… but no more.  In 1988, a young man from Missouri began a talk show in New York on the AM band… you know that part of the radio to which no one ever listened? His voice and his views conflicted with the main stream media… but he began to grow because people like me… and maybe people like you.. heard him and said… “Gee this guy is saying what I’ve wanted to say!”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rush Limbaugh began to cut a swath through the liberal BS like no one before him. Twenty two years later, he is still cutting that swath. His voice consoled us during dark times. He said things that made you wince because conservatives were like women and kids back in the 1890’s… they were to be occasionally seen but never heard and that is what the liberals of this country STILL want from conservatives. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was fine for Liberals to denounce George Bush… to call him a Nazi… to portray him as Hitler… as a chimp… as stupid… but also cunning… because some people believe that George Bush and Dick Cheney secretly lay all the explosives that brought down the World Trade Center buildings. I never understood that part. Bush was so dumb he couldn’t read but he and Cheney masterminded the Trade Center disasters and still had time to blow the levies in New Orleans. Fascinating. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was alright for Sean Penn, the Dixie Chicks, and Danny Glover amongst others, to go out of country and belittle Mr. Bush… but if we want to plan a Tea Party convention… SHUT UP!  Hillary Clinton boldly stated it was an American right to dissent. But if you express viewpoints counter to the media and the current administration, SHUT UP you racist dog you! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let March 23rd 2010 be our July 4th, 1776. Now, just as then, the battle had yet to be waged, but the people declared to King George, “We WILL be FREE!”  Many dark days loomed ahead but the battle was officially started that day. Many of my friends tell me I need to be careful… I need to tone down my rhetoric… but let me remind you a something… Silence becomes Socialism. Just as the signers of the Declaration of Independence knew that merely signing the document was the same as signing their own death warrant, we need to fight back while there is still time to fight back. We need to fight back while we still are ABLE to fight back. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes indeed, it is a new day and new times… but once again, let us remember March 23rd but not March 23rd, 2010 but rather March 23rd, 1775.  The following is long and I tried to find a way to shorten it but I could not… so bear with me as I give you a passage from the most stirring speech on freedom I have ever heard, given March 23rd, 1775. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let us not, I beseech you, sir, deceive ourselves. Sir, we have done everything that could be done to avert the storm which is now coming on. We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated; we have prostrated ourselves before the throne, and have implored its interposition to arrest the tyrannical hands of the ministry and Parliament. Our petitions have been slighted; our remonstrances have produced additional violence and insult; our supplications have been disregarded; and we have been spurned, with contempt, from the foot of the throne! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In vain, after these things, may we indulge the fond hope of peace and reconciliation. There is no longer any room for hope. If we wish to be free-- if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending--if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained--we must fight! I freely admit the idea occurred to me back in seventh grade and has never left me. Many of you have started your version of the ‘Great American Novel’ but it loses steam somewhere along the road. This blog is my way of avoiding that steam loss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You have this great idea and you just know it will be a super read. You carefully think it all the way through, assign your characters their lives and begin down the freeway of novel-dom. About the time you hit 75 pages or so, the story is running stale. What do you do?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pretend you are driving instead of writing. You could drive from Michigan to Florida non-stop, exiting long enough to fuel up, use the rest rooms and move on. You eat on the run and you stop only to change drivers. By the time you get to Florida you are one whipped puppy. When you get home, you won’t remember much of the drive down and even less of the drive back because you will be too tired. Your first couple of days in Florida will be half hearted because you are ‘jet lagged’.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now let’s get back to writing. You are writing the best novel ever written and you are traveling down the freeway on the writers express. About the time you hit halfway, the fatigue sets in and even though you know where you are going with the story, it has become heavy laden in its own weight. You just know the reader will become bored because YOU have become bored writing it. What to do, what to do?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just as your trip to Florida would have been more memorable if you had taken a few exits and explored the area on your way down, what will it hurt if your writing takes an exit or two? How do you take an exit while writing? I am glad you asked! Stephen King is probably the best example of how an exit is taken.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;King started with a town that was imaginary and made it real. He developed the town, the factories, the residences around it, and made it real. He started with one story set in Castle Rock and brought in various characters to make the first story work. He either consciously or unconsciously set the stage to go back to the same town and some of the same characters. He used the supporting cast of one story as main characters in another. He did this several times and by the time he got around to destroying Castle Rock, I felt I knew everyone in the community.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now I just took a small exit excursion of a paragraph. Just as your story pace begins to slow down some, you let it rest and take an exit. Use a character or a circumstance to bridge off from and make a short story within a longer one. Make sure to bring it back full circle (just as you would eventually get back unto the freeway) and when you get back to the main story, it is ready to go again. By taking the occasional ‘path less traveled’ you can keep both the readers interest and your own interest in the story line.
